Senior Director, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand

Jason Tabarias is a Senior Director at the Centre for Public Impact.

He joined CPI in 2026.

Throughout his career, Jason has focused on driving significant impact across public systems. As a public servant, he worked on major national reforms to Australia’s social care systems, including childcare, health, school education, vocational education, and disability services, and on driving innovation in policymaking and public administration. As an applied academic, he helped ASEAN nations avert a global trade war, and he helped the government of Nepal adopt a new federal constitution and establish the provincial layer of government. As a consultant, he supported the world’s largest mining company in exiting all fossil fuel assets globally and was a founding partner of a fast-growing economics and public policy consulting firm.

Jason is at CPI to collaborate with governments to tackle the biggest challenges of our time. He is passionate about CPI’s ability to stand in spaces of complexity, relationships, and the future. He wants to help governments unlearn unhelpful ways of seeing the world so they can better address issues such as climate change, AI, and social services.

In his leisure time, Jason loves the finest coffee, country drives, and spending time with his kids.  He also adores Melbourne’s incredible people, sights, culture, weather, and enthusiasm. Jason holds a Master’s degree in Economics, was previously an Honorary Professor at the University of Melbourne, and is currently a research collaborator at the Australian National University.
