Supporting women and girls

Supporting women and girls is essential for building a just, resilient, and thriving society. When systemic barriers are dismantled and equal opportunities are promoted, public institutions, communities, and individuals all stand to gain.

At the Centre for Public Impact, we are committed to driving change through innovative, inclusive, and evidence-based initiatives.

By partnering with governments to challenge gender norms, uplift marginalized voices, and co-create solutions with communities, we aim to shape a future where public systems work for everyone — ensuring equal access to opportunities and the chance to thrive.

Explore our initiatives below, each centering public institutions as agents of change.

Strengthening support for survivors through a government systems approach

In March 2025, we brought together 46 service providers, funders, and government leaders to tackle the chronic instability in funding domestic and sexual violence services. Using systems thinking tools, participants surfaced structural root causes and co-created strategies that public agencies can adopt to drive sustainable transformation.

This convening is documented in a report designed for policymakers and public agencies to adapt and implement.

Championing elimination of violence through public policy

In November 2024, we supported a live broadcast for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Our aim was to elevate survivor voices, galvanise public pressure, and catalyse governmental commitments that embed violence prevention in national and local policy.

SAVES Center: Bridging public services with survivor needs

We support the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ SAVES Center, offering technical assistance and capacity building at 13 demonstration sites. These sites help governments better integrate child support, parental rights, and safety services for survivors.

Data for Equity: Enabling governments to use data for inclusion

Our Data for Equity program equips city governments and their data offices to identify and address gaps in opportunity for women and marginalized communities. In Birmingham, Alabama, city leaders successfully deployed this approach to support Minority-, Women-, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (MWDBEs), illustrating how public systems can be more inclusive.

Mayors Challenge: Centering gender in city governance

Through our partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, we have encouraged mayors to embed gender-responsive design in their city strategies. Learn more about the Mayors Challenge winners below.

Partnering with government to create lasting change

Public institutions are essential to building a future where women and girls can thrive. At the Centre for Public Impact, we work with governments to design policies, strengthen systems, and co-create solutions that remove barriers and expand opportunity.

Together, we build public services that are inclusive, effective, and shaped by the people they serve.
