Why attend?

Current hierarchical leadership models often develop a mindset that seeks to manage and control, doesn’t recognise the complexity of our challenges, fails to tap into the collective imagination and potential for addressing challenges, and offers static solutions to dynamic problems.

Our work exploring Human Learning Systems (HLS) has highlighted the need to shift from linear and individualistic leadership models to collaborative systems stewardship, where power and decision-making are reimagined.

This isn’t easy! Even though there is an aspiration to work collectively and often a compelling vision of how things could be, leaders find it challenging to move out of silos; let go of familiar patterns, take risks, trust others; share resources and all the other work that needs to happen to move from an individual to collective approach.

Who should attend

This course will have the most impact if:

  • You have attended one of our introductory webinars, half-day workshops, or the Convening Conversations in Complexity course, or are familiar with the Human Learning Systems approach.
  • You are in a position to influence, support change and take action in your work setting or across public services.

What you’ll gain

Deepen your understanding
Gain insights into the Human Learning Systems approach as well as systemic and stewardship leadership theories.

Learn from real stories
Hear stories of how a Human Learning Systems approach has led to change and positive outcomes, and begin to consider how you can apply these lessons in your context.

Self-awareness and change
Reflect on your patterns of thinking and behaviour and start to recognise what you want to change to lead using a Human Learning Systems approach.

Develop an action plan
Create a plan of actionable next steps, which will be part of your Human Learning Systems approach. This is likely a plan about what you intend to try out, how you will learn from what happens and how you will adapt and develop. This may include:

How you can begin to create conditions for those you work with to develop services that enable people to flourish

How you continue to develop self-awareness of your patterns of thinking and behaving, how you try out different ways of acting, and how you learn from these small experiments.
