Athena Hughes (she/her)

Athena Hughes is Senior Associate with the North America team at the Centre for Public Impact.

She joined the CPI team in 2022.

Athena has a BA in English and Peace Studies from University of Notre Dame and an MA in Public Service from Marquette University.

She has experience as a Jesuit Volunteer/Americorps member at domestic violence shelters in Boise, Idaho and Sitka, Alaska.  She was also a Resource Centre Coordinator at a drop-in women’s day shelter in Boston, Massachusetts and served as an Advocacy Fellow at a child & family services organisation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Athena is a firm believer that the people who are closest to a problem have crucial insights into how to make it better. In her work at CPI, she loves to see when city employees shift their understanding of a complex challenge and find possible new approaches, after speaking with residents and colleagues who are most impacted.

She wrote the issue briefs and Advocacy Guiding Principles documents for the Wellpoint Care Five Pillars of Stability.
