
Executive Assistant
Maurisa is Executive Assistant at Centre for Public Impact.
She joined the CPI team in 2025.
Maurisa holds a a B.A. in Sociology from St. John’s University, an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education Student Affairs from Indiana University Bloomington, and a M.F.A in Creative Writing from Randolph College.
She proudly hosts a supper club called “Tulips in the Garden: A Black Queer Supper Club”, a soft landing space for Black Queer Women, Femmes, and Gender Expansive millennials in Durham, North Carolina. Throughout the year, they gather to share a nourishing meal, celebrate Black Queer joy, and support the local community.
She is also the Lead Curriculum Facilitator for GIRLS LEADING OUR WORLD (G.L.O.W.) in Durham, NC. G.L.O.W. is a programme dedicated to empowering young girls through leadership development, mentorship, and education. She finds supporting the growth and development of young girls is incredibly rewarding.
She was honored to serve as the Curriculum Director, Lead Facilitator, and Coach for Nikki’s Table, an initiative by The Beautiful Project in Durham, NC. Nikki’s Table was an intensive peer learning cohort designed to support Black women and nonbinary poets in preparing their work for publication.
As a writer and educator, Maurisa is committed to honouring the interiority of Black Queer Womxn through poetry and Black Feminist pedagogies. Her website has some of her notable publications.
Maurisa is excited to support Julie Wang, Director of Strategic Partnerships, and the North American programmatic team. She values being an Executive Assistant because it is honourable and noble work. Coming from a lineage of individuals who have contributed meaningfully through roles often overlooked, she is humbled to carry on that legacy with pride.
When she is not working, Maurisa enjoys doing yoga, eating yummy food, having deep belly laughs, and practicing aerial.
